Courses Offered by Us - BLISc

 

Objectives of the Course :

  • To educate the students in the philosophy of librarianship, basic principles, fundamental laws, professional ethics;
  • To train the students in the skills of information knowledge processing, organization and retrieval;
  • To train the students in the management of Library and Information Centres;
  • To enable the students to understand and appreciate the functions and purpose of Library and Information Centres in the changing social, cultural, technological and economic environment;
  • To provide the basic knowledge of computers and their application in library and information activities; and
  • To give the students an understanding of the basics of Information Science.

 

Duration: One Year (full time) Course of Two Semesters

Intake: Seventy-eight (78) seats, including candidates from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBC and EWS categories. However, the intake of the international students (Maximum 5) will be in addition to the prescribed intake of 78 seats.

Note: The number of seats may vary. Supernumerary seats will be as per University of Delhi norms. Candidates must visit the respective Department office/website for the updated fee structure.

arrowDeputed Candidates:

A maximum of 2 seats will be set apart for deputed candidates, out of whom one will be for candidates deputed by Delhi University Library System and another for candidates deputed by the College/Institution maintained by or affiliated to the University of Delhi. Candidates to be considered under this category must fulfil the minimum admission requirements. In addition, they should be: (i) working as Semi-Professional Assistants/Senior Library Assistants for at least three years, and (ii) granted study leave with total emoluments or deputation allowances for the duration of the course of the study. The criteria for selection in this category will also be in the order of merit as laid down for other candidates. 

arrowSeats for Foreign Students and Procedure for their Admission :

The Admission Committee on individual merit will consider international students' applications, and a maximum of 5 seats will be offered to the international students. These seats will be in addition to the prescribed intake of 78 seats. International students seeking admission to .B.L.I.Sc. Course in the Department of Library and Information Science must apply directly to the Foreign Students' Advisor, Foreign Students' Registry, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007, who will arrange their admission in the Department. International students stationed in India who have passed the last examination from the Board/University in India may seek admission based on merit and other students after obtaining a No Objection Certificate from the Foreign Students’ Advisor.

arrowProgram Specific Eligibility: 

1A: Bachelor's Degree in Science/Social Science/Humanities from a recognized University

1B: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Technology with specialization in Science and Mathematics or any other qualification equivalent thereto from a recognized University.

1C: Master's Degree in Science/Social Science/Humanities from a recognized University 

arrowProcedure for Admission: For admission to the Bachelor of Library & Information Science (B.L.I.Sc.), the candidates must fulfil the above program-specific Eligibility and appear in the respective CUET paper. Refer to www.cuet.nta.nic.in for the syllabus of the CUET PaperCode (COQP11).
