Points out the continuous process of transplanting library educational models from U.S. ignoring the conditions and peculiarities of the local environment to Brazil . Mentions about library education curriculum structured by CFE in the country long back and still in force which requires a considerable change. Several efforts made commissions and discussions on national level to change the curriculum have been incorporated. Gives proposed plan to change the library undergraduate curriculum structure which is in three parts, viz. Foundation discipline. Instrumental discipline and Professional disciplines alongwith the rationale for them. Emphasises social awareness and professional competence as pre-conditions for libraries to serve the Brazilian society and to solve problems in their professional area.
