NARENDRA KUMAR. Citation Study as a Tool for Evaluation of Journal Collection Use: A Case Study. 9,1;1984; 48-64

Deals with the citation analysis of 122 research papers, written by the users of Delhi University Library in the field of biology published during July 1981 to June 1983. The questionnaire method was adopted to find out the bibliographical details or research papers. Data reveals that 61% of the biological periodicals in library have been cited which are origination from USA (48.43%), UK (15.65%) and India (12.50%); and represents the half-life of the Journal collection as 8 years and 4 months. The other aspects studied include distribution of citations, currency of usage, productivity and specific journal usage. The ranking of journals based on the study is correlate with another study of Temple University of Philadelphia (McCaine and Bobick, 1981). A ranked list of 25 highly cited and 25 least cited periodicals of Delhi University Library in biology is given in the appendix.

Presents bibliometric analysis of the data of solar energy research collected from ISA, INPAT, INSPEC SCI databases and also scanned annual reports of other Indian R & D organizations covering 1992-97 period for the purpose. It gives quantitative and qualitative assessment of R&D output contributed by the scientists and organization and presents rank order of the institutions, which have made their contribution in the discipline of solar energy research. Analysis also indicates thrust areas of solar energy research.
