Development of national lending facilities on the one hand, and the pressure of quantitative growth of documents, limited finance and increased users' demands warrant a review of policies relating to acquisition, organization and storage, and service of periodicals in specialist libraries. The methodology for applying different mathematical, and procedural models for decision making regarding acquisition of periodicals are demonstrated here. The merits of the procedural model based on cost-effectiveness techniques have been discussed in detail; and it has been recommended for adoption.
