SUMSION (John W). Public Lending Right (PLR): The UK Experience. 13,1;1988;83-95

British Public Lending Right uses computer technology and statistical sampling to calculate authors' payments. With precise loans estimating its operation is low cost and well accepted by authors. The main features are described. Analyses types of author who benefit. Exploring the reasons for this lead to a theoretical consideration of books appropriate for public lending. The economic case for PLR, as well as librarians' collection policies, must not treat all books as equal but distinguish between different book types.
