Libraries in developing countries have been neglected for various reasons. Discusses the factors responsible for transforming the traditional societies and economic systems, as applicable to librarianship. Analyses the type of work done by the library manpower and suggests areas of automation such as housekeeping and examines it as a threat to labour. Mentions the need for all modes of electronic aides and switching mechanism for advanced information systems. Cautions that libraries, which are not geared in favour, will be by-passed. Discusses the need for development of Information System in relation to automation and emphasises the need to give information and effective information. Discusses the use of appropriate technology and high technology and introduction of new and advanced technology.
